The Grand Rapids Tidal Waves Women’s Tackle Football Team (The Waves) started the 2022 season with a win! The Waves traveled down to Columbus, Indiana on Saturday, April 9 to face off against the Columbus Vanguards. The Waves came out fast putting up 35 points in the first half. At the end of the game, the scoreboard read 44-0 in favor of the Waves.

The Waves are coached by first year head coach Stacey Davis and featured a balanced run and pass attack leaning on the experience of 2nd year quarterback Brittany Mayer and 2nd year running back Brynn Pline. Come see the team in person at their Home Opener on Saturday, April 23 as 40 women from the west Michigan area take the field to take on the Midwest (Wisconsin) Mountain Lions. The game will be played at Northview High School (4451 Hunsberger Ave NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49525) with kickoff scheduled for 5 pm. Tickets can be purchased at the gate or in advance at www.tidalwavesfootball.com/tickets.

“This team has really come together this season,” says Justin Schnurer, Offensive Coordinator for the Waves. “Our players have been great at supporting each other and holding each other accountable, and we cannot wait to see how far this team can go.”

There are three home games and three away games on tap during the 2022 regular season. The three home games are scheduled for April 23, May 7, and May 14. All games will have a 5:00 p.m. kickoff and will be held at Northview High School. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for kids, and those under 10 years old are free.

The Tidal Waves have announced themes for two of the three home games.  April 23 will be Kids Food Basket (KFB) night. All fans are encouraged to bring an item from the KFB Wish List for donation to the Kids Food Basket. Female athletes will be celebrated on May 7 this season; wear your sports jersey or uniform (any sport) and receive free admission.

The Tidal Waves were established in 2018 and are a Division 3 member of the national Women’s Football Alliance (WFA) league consisting of 55 teams total.  This year’s National Championship weekend will be held July 8-10 at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio with the WFA Pro division championship game being aired live on ESPN2 July 10 at 2pm.
