The Grand Rapids Tidal Waves Women’s Tackle Football Team held their 6th annual toy drive over the last month and delivered 783 toys to the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital on December 22, 2022. “This is one of our favorite days of the year” states Pamela Blazo, President. “Our organization strives to be actively engaged in the community and this is one of our players’ favorite events throughout the year.”

The Tidal Waves would like to thank their fans and the whole community for donating toys to help brighten the day for a local child while they battle through tough times during this holiday season.  “Seeing the number of items coming in is humbling,” says player Mackenzie Phillips. The Tidal Waves continue to grow and expand the event each year and plans are already underway for next year.

The Tidal Waves would like to thank the following businesses that partnered with the Waves this season to host collection boxes: Handy Wacks Corporation (Sparta), Grand Rapids Cookies & Cupcakes by Design (Grandville), Kent County 61st District Court – Treatment & Support Court (Grand Rapids), The Copper Vine (Grandville), Patti Herm School of Dance (Otsego), 9/8 Tattoo Collective (Otsego), West Michigan Chiropractic (Rockford), Premier Fitness & Wellness (Grand Rapids), Uncle Cheetah’s Soup Shop (Forest Hills, Grand Rapids), The Old Goat (Grand Rapids), and Electric Cheetah (Cascade, Grand Rapids).

The Grand Rapids Tidal Waves held a free youth camp on Saturday, October 22 at Riverside Park in partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Grand Rapids. It was a sunny day in the mid-70s and the laughs of the kids could be heard throughout the camp. One family drove down from Mt. Pleasant just to attend the camp as their daughter had recently shown interest in the sport of football. There were 11 Tidal Waves players and Head Coach Davis in attendance to teach the campers about the game of football and multiple positions. Stations included running back, quarterback, receiving, offensive/defensive line, linebacker, and place kicking. The Waves plan to make the camp an annual event so be on the lookout next Fall for registration.
