The Grand Rapids Tidal Waves Women’s Tackle Football Team (The Waves) have moved to 5-0 on the season with a 49-0 win over the Midwest (Wisconsin) Mountain Lions on May 21. The latest Massey Rankings now show the Tidal Waves holding the number one ranking in Division 3 out of 28 teams across the country and 14th overall for the entire Women’s Football Alliance (WFA) league (out of 60 teams).
The Waves play their final regular season game this Saturday against the Capital City Savages at Okemos High School; kickoff is scheduled for 7 PM. This game is sure to be an exciting game for fans as the Waves are ranked first in overall scoring, third in team offense and seventh in team defense. A win will secure home field advantage for the Waves throughout the first two rounds of playoffs. A loss could knock them out of the playoffs or send them on the road for round one.
The Waves are coached by first year head coach Stacey Davis and feature a balanced run and pass attack. The on-field leadership from 1st Team All Americans Ambra Mason (offensive line) and Patriellia Whittington (utility player) have propelled the team forward all season. The Waves had seven players selected as All Americans this season including second team selections Brynn Pline (tailback), Daylyn Ezell (linebacker), Bobbie Goodwin (defensive tackle), Dessiree Trevino (punt return) and third team selection Sarah Workman (free safety).
The Tidal Waves were established in 2018 and are a Division 3 member of the national Women’s Football Alliance (WFA) league consisting of 60 teams total. This year’s National Championship weekend will be held July 9-10 at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio with the WFA Pro division championship game being aired live on ESPN2 July 10 at 2pm.
